The KHES received an ambulance from Shizuoka City. A handover ceremony was held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, where Shizuoka City Mayor Takashi NANBA handed the ambulance keys to the Chairperson of KHES, Prof. Dr. RESHAD Khaled.
The Role of the Ambulance
① To save the lives of Emergency Patients: Improving the quality of medical services through the transport of emergency patients, pregnant women, infectious disease patients, and critically ill patients from KHES clinic to the Mirwaise Hospital in Kandahar.
② To contribute in the community healthcare: Improving community healthcare by quickly transporting emergency patients from 14 regional healthcare hubs, called "Health posts" around the clinic under its jurisdiction.
③ To contribute in the maternal and child healthcare: While the clinic provide free 24-hour childbirth services assisted by midwives, the safe transport of pregnant women and new mothers and babies reduces the risks of childbirth and promotes improvement in maternal and child health.
④ Disaster Relief: Given the recent earthquakes and floods in Afghanistan, we plan to utilize these resources for medical activities in disaster-stricken areas if necessary.
On the other hand, as Afghanistan is a landlocked country, ambulances will have to be sent via neighboring Pakistan and Iran. However, the large-scale armed conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan on February 26, 2026, and the outbreak of the war with Iran on February 28, have made it uncertain when ambulances can be shipped. We hope that these two conflicts will subside, that sea transport to the region will resume, and that ambulances can be delivered as soon as possible.
